An Outfit Architect

When you build a house, you start with the blueprint, essentially the vision on paper. Then, you need the materials that form the foundation, wooden planks, nails, screws. Following that, you need the glue that holds it all together, the cement. Finally, a fresh coat of paint, and you have yourself a house (I’ve never actually built a house, so don’t take my word for it).

However, what I do have experience building is an outfit, and the same formula applies. You need the blueprint, your vision. Then, you need the foundation, a top and a bottom. Following this is the glue that holds it all together, a belt. To finish it off, you add some accessories, maybe a sweater around your shoulders, a matching shoe, and you have yourself an outfit.

When my mom asks me why I start getting ready for work two hours before I have to clock in, I simply recite this formula to her. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and similarly, my outfit certainly isn’t built in ten minutes. I am of the strong belief that my outward appearance is a reflection of who I am inside. If I don’t look intentional and put together, then what does that say about me?

The same way you build a house brick by brick, you build an outfit piece by piece. Perhaps I’m not qualified to give you advice on all your construction needs, however I’d like to think I’m qualified to help you become an outfit architect.
